How to Find CRI on Light Bulbs?
The CRI of a light bulb can usually be found on its packaging, specification sheet, product label, test report, or manufacturer’s technical data. It may appear as “CRI,” “Ra,” or a value such as CRI 80, CRI 90, or Ra ≥90. When no rating is published, color-rendering performance cannot be confirmed from wattage, lumens, or color temperature alone. Buyers should request documented data, especially when products will be used across hotels, villas, retail exteriors, landscaped spaces, or other areas where accurate color appearance matters.
Check the Packaging and Product Label
Retail packaging often lists CRI beside wattage, lumens, CCT, beam angle, voltage, and lamp-base information. The bulb body may also include the value, although limited printing space means only essential electrical data is sometimes shown.
Look for these common formats:

Professional lighting products should have a specification sheet containing photometric and electrical information. Search the document for “CRI,” “Color Rendering Index,” or “Ra.”
The published value should correspond to the complete product configuration. Different CCT options within one lamp series may use different LED packages and may not achieve identical CRI or efficacy.
When a product page lists several choices, confirm which rating applies to the exact wattage, CCT, voltage, and LED version being ordered.
Ask for Test Data When Color Matters
Learning how to find CRI on light bulbs is especially important when the lighting must reveal food, skin tones, timber, brick, fabrics, plants, or decorative finishes naturally.
A test report can provide more information than a package label. Besides the general Ra value, it may show individual color samples, R9 performance, chromaticity coordinates, CCT, Duv, and spectral power distribution.
R9 deserves attention where saturated red appearance matters. A bulb can have an acceptable average CRI while still reproducing red surfaces poorly.
Avoid Estimating CRI by Appearance Alone
Visual comparison can reveal obvious differences, but it cannot produce a reliable CRI value. The surrounding walls, daylight, camera settings, and nearby light sources influence perception.
Phone cameras are also unsuitable for measuring CRI. Their automatic white balance and image processing can make two light sources look more similar or more different than they appear in person.
A physical sample remains valuable for judging the final atmosphere, but standardized measurement is needed to verify the numerical rating.
Confirm Consistency Across the Order
One approved bulb does not guarantee that every later production batch will look identical. LED binning, phosphor composition, driver current, and operating temperature can affect color performance.
A high CRI light bulb supplier should record the approved LED specification and control substitutions. Buyers can request the following before mass production:
Minimum CRI rather than an approximate target
Required CCT and acceptable tolerance
R9 value where relevant
Complete-lamp lumen output
Approved sample and test report
Batch and repeat-order consistency
Finding the CRI is therefore not limited to locating a number on the carton. The rating should be linked to the exact bulb configuration and supported by documentation when color quality is important to the installation.
